January 16th – 17th Art’s Birthday: Open Studio and Book Art Exhibition

A two day networking event in the spirit of fluxus, which took place at East Street Arts, Patrick Studios.

On the evening of Saturday 16th January, all those involved in preparing for Art’s Birthday were invited in to Benedict’s studio to have a look at the work he has been preparing for his upcoming trip to the USA in March 2010.

On Sunday 17th January, Benedict turned his studio into an exhibition space, with the help of Jill Carruthers, displaying editions of Field Study, field reports and a variety of book works as well as miniature art works, all produced by members of Field Study between 1994 and 2007.

Wilberforce Health Centre Development, Hull

Benedict took on the role of lead artist for the NHS Hull LIFT programme for their City centre health centre (Wilberforce House) back in November 2008. Since then he has been working as a member of the design team and with  fellow artist Glenn Boulter (community engagement artist) to generate a public arts programme for the community and the building.

As part of this programme Benedict has commissioned two photographers, Jessa Fairbrother and Steven Gibson, to develop a new body of work in response to the people and place of the development sit. The final pieces will be on display within the building, which is due for completion at the end of 2011.
